By Bill Carlstrom
August 20 thru 22, five OIYC boats rendezvoused at Ann and Bill Carlstrom's home on Holmes Harbor, south Whidbey Island. Attending were John and Margaret Greever (Gaudeamus), Wally and Mebs Gilliam (Gadzooks!), Bill and Hattie Dixon (Vancourier), Ray, Kathy and Lucy Hendrickson (Tryphena).
The record rain did not deter the lively conversations and a “land yacht” tour of South Whidbey back-roads, including lunch at Toby's Tavern in Coupeville. After lunch some chose to dodge the rain drops by ducking into Langley's charming shops. Others held a powwow and viewing of Mebs Gilliam's story of Gadzooks!'s Alaska adventure in the Carlstrom's living room. Others chose to catch a catnap on their boats. You can see Gadzooks! at www.pdqyachts.com. Choose the Power submenu.
No one refused dessert after lasagna on Friday and barbecued salmon on Saturday night. But then who could refuse Turtle Sundae ice cream with a variety of sauces, or Whidbey's famous Marion berry pie with French vanilla à la mode.
The Carlstroms look forward to piloting a second version in the future
