First Annual Gals Getaway
An enthusiastic group of twelve on four boats -- Gadzooks! (34' power catamaran), Oyster Catcher (31' Camano trawler), Miramar (56' Monk cruiser), Windrifter (42' Westsail) -- gathered for lunch on the dock at Reid Harbor, Stuart Island. It was mid-week but the bay was surprisingly full and only two boats found space at the dock, so one caught a buoy and one anchored.
Hiking filled the afternoon; the park loop and the school. Happy hour was in Miramar's salon with hot crab dips and spanakopita, all from Windrifter's galley. Because of rain, our dinner moved indoors on Gadzooks! with hamburgers grilled in the rain, three great salads and gourmet cheese cakes. After dinner we all moved up into the rainy forest to end the day around the campfire. It sounds like an ordinary day but it was exceptional, a heck of a lot of fun. Many slept in the next morning while others walked or jogged to the light house before leaving at noon. Twenty four hours, a great time and the beginning of a tradition.
Our crews were Mebs Gilliam, her daughter Lisa, Diane Jarecki, Janet Acker, Teri Williams, Arlene Tande, Helsa Tong, her mother Joanna, Kathy Hendrickson, Pat Thomas, Gail Gilman and Emilie Rankin.
