Orcas Island Junior Sailing
Summer Registration 2007
Welcome aboard! We are pleased to announce the fourteenth year of the Orcas Island Junior Sailing Program.
Junior Sailing offers students between the ages of 8 and 15 an opportunity to learn to sail in a variety of boats and
under a variety of conditions. Our fleet includes 6 Vanguard Prams, 7 Lasers and 3 Club Flying Juniors. Students are
encouraged to progress in their sailing ability to larger, faster and more sophisticated boats.
Please understand that all of our classes are for kids who are truly interested in sailing and/or learning to sail. We
expect students to be in the boats every day and to be prepared to learn and have fun when they arrive.
REGISTRATION: Classes are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Only receipt of your completed form and check
for the fee constitutes a firm reservation. You will not receive a confirmation or response unless the session
selected is full and it is necessary to sign-up for a different date. Assume that you are registered unless you hear
from us otherwise.
Need-based scholarships for the class fees are available and we encourage you to apply. For information on
registration or obtaining financial assistance, contact Didier Gincig at the Orcas Recreation Program 376-5339.
WEATHER: In case of rain or high winds, please call the instructor’s cell phone (to be announced) for information
about the day’s class. If cancelled, a make-up class will be held on the Friday of that week at the usual time.
REFUNDS: Full refunds for cancelled registrations will be offered until June 22. After June 22, refunds are not
available.
MEETING PLACE: All classes are held at the Orcas Island Yacht Club in West Sound. Supervision may not be
available for children who are dropped off early or who are picked up late. Please make every effort to be on time.
PLEASE BRING: Students are encouraged to bring their own, fitted LIFE JACKET, however, we do have them.
Also be sure to bring a WATER BOTTLE, SUNSCREEN, HAT/SUNGLASSES, SNACK and WARM
CLOTHES. Shoes must he worn at all times on the dock. Teva-type sandals are okay.
SWIMMING TEST: Students will be asked to participate in a short swimming test on the first day of their session.
A swimming suit and towel should be packed. Bringing an extra set of warm, dry clothes might be a good idea.
